Larnangurrak: Capturing the Spirit of the Dja Dja Wurrung Corporate & Community Centre

At Pixel Collective, we take pride in photographing spaces that tell a story, and our recent shoot of the Dja Dja Wurrung Corporate & Community Centre in Bendigo—commissioned by Searle Bros Building Contractors—was an opportunity to document a project rich in cultural significance and community impact.

Known as Larnangurrak, meaning ‘our place’, this landmark facility is a testament to the strength, heritage, and resilience of the Dja Dja Wurrung people. More than just a building, it serves as a gathering space for cultural connection, corporate operations, and community engagement.

A Hub for Culture, Learning & Empowerment

Designed with both functionality and cultural authenticity in mind, Larnangurrak provides essential services while fostering a deeper connection to the Dja Dja Wurrung identity. The centre is a place where tradition and progress intersect, hosting:

  • Cultural events and ceremonies to celebrate and preserve traditions.
  • Educational programs aimed at fostering awareness and understanding of Dja Dja Wurrung history and culture.
  • Community meeting spaces designed for collaboration and empowerment.
  • Sustainable architecture and materials, reflecting a commitment to Country and environmental responsibility.

Through thoughtful design and construction, this facility provides a welcoming space for both the Dja Dja Wurrung community and the wider public to engage, learn, and connect.

Capturing the Essence of Larnangurrak

Our photography aimed to highlight the cultural integrity and architectural beauty of Larnangurrak. From the use of natural materials that reference the landscape to the open, light-filled spaces that encourage gathering and reflection, we focused on capturing the spirit of a place that is both deeply rooted in history and looking towards the future.

Every image showcases the balance between tradition and contemporary design, bringing to life the textures, colors, and craftsmanship that make this centre a truly unique space.

A Symbol of Strength and Unity

Larnangurrak is more than just a corporate and community centre—it’s a symbol of resilience and progress for the Dja Dja Wurrung people. Its creation reflects the ongoing journey of cultural revitalization and self-determination, ensuring that future generations have a space to celebrate and strengthen their heritage.
