The plate steel staircase at Mizuho is a fitting complement to a harmonious workspace design.

One of Japan’s three “megabanks”, Mizuho Bank recently moved across Sydney, taking 2 floors in the iconic, Hassell designed 60 Martin Place. As a leading global bank with one of the largest customer bases in Japan, and an extensive international network covering financial and business centers around the world, Mizuho prides itself on its “customer first” principle. Servicing both individual and corporate customers, their goal is to become “their most trusted bank”.

The new 60 Martin Place workspace, designed by Gensler and delivered by MPA, are simply remarkable. In the words of Genslers Tom Owens, the design “celebrated the juxtaposition of traditional and contemporary, with a unique goal of achieving harmonious fusion of traditional and modern Japanese motifs.”

Positioned as a backdrop to the elegant yet simple reception area is the plate steel stair by Active Metal. Sculpted from 12mm steel plate, the balustrade is an integral structural member that acts as the stringer to the stair. The seamless white of the stair is counterbalanced by the warmth of the natural timber treads and handrail while the lighting design of the space contributes an ambience of calm and harmony. An exceptional workspace and an exceptional stair.
