Architectural fit out and staircase photography & video production
Client: Active Metal
Fit out: 108 Bank St, South Melbourne
We were commissioned by Active Metal to provide architectural photography and video production of their staircase install at 108 Bank St, Melbourne.
The Melbourne Butter Supply Co. is an iconic 1930s Art Deco building with a storied past. After its industrial life, it became home to recording studios producing hits from the likes of John Farnham in the 1960s and 1970s. In the 2000s, 180 Bank Street saw hit movies like Hacksaw Ridge and Mad Max: Fury Road complete post-production under its roof.
WMK Architects have retained much of the building’s original features, including concrete floors, exposed brickwork and steel, but added a glass roof to allow natural light into all levels of the building. Active Metal’s dramatic staircase has an industrial feel with its solid timber treads and dark steel; a wax coating creates a patina that will add character to the balustrade over time.
