Office fitout – staircase install

The exemplary curved staircase in the Ashurst Melbourne office maximizes an agile, sustainable and collaborative workplace experience.

Ashurst is a prominent multinational law firm that operates across 15 countries, and in the legal and business landscape in Australia since 1841. Recently Ashurst has relocated to their Melbourne’s new home located at 80 Collins St, the renowned ‘Paris End’ of Collins St. An unrivalled central location with a network of top-tier companies and first class facilities, the new office is another milestone in their connection with the Melbourne market, aimed at supporting their national and global clients.

Spanning 3 levels, the fully integrated workplace designed by multi-award winning architect Bates Smart, reflects what the firm want to be as a business – agile, sustainable and collaborative. The design is based around design principles that include natural materiality, soft forms and edges, light and transparency, and making a strong connection with the site context. Providing a physical representation of the Ashurst Brands, the workplace includes a mix of traditional meeting rooms, open collaborative zones plus focused work spaces.

A central, double height curved staircase and void created by Active Metal beautifully connects the whole workplace, with key staff amenities located around this space to socialise and collaborate. The stair itself is a steel plate construction, seamlessly fused together and softened by the inclusion of high quality joinery linings and timber handrails. A beautiful staircase statement that provides context and focus to the entire workspace.
